First Aid Dot

A smart textile helper for safer and easier CPR

by Hanna Vossgätter & Lilly Zollner

Medical

Whether at work, spare time or in traffic – when people are in danger, fast help is necessary. Immediate resuscitation measures increase the survivor’s chances of survival by 50%, with every minute that passes, they decrease by 10% and after five minutes the affected chance of survival is 0%.

First.aiDot is an <marked>intuitive CPR assistant<marked>

In foursimple steps, it guides the user in performing acorrect CPR. With the help of visual and hapticfeedback, the user presses hard enough in the rightplace and at the right rhythm. The red circle symbolizesthe touch point and vibrates in the pressurerhythm. If enough pressure is applied to the redcircle, the outer semicircle will light up.

The First.aiDOT can be used in <marked>four simple steps<marked>

The user places the textile sideways on the middleof the upper body and places his hands on the redcircle. Built-in vibration motors give the user theright rhythm of 100 bpm. The pressure exerted ismeasured by built-in pressure sensors. The integratedLEDs in the semicircle light up brightly ifthe pressure is enough. All combined FIRST.aiDOTmakes the procedure of CPR less stressful and givesthe user a sense of security.‍

<marked>Berlin University of Applied Sciences<marked> meets hapticlabs

Hapticlabs.io visited the HTW (Berlin University of Applied Sciences) as a cooperation partner. They assisted with programming the artifacts for the study project "Closeness over Distance - Haptic Communication via Smart Textiles" and provided essential insights on the topic of haptics in human perception.

Increase <marked>CPR<marked> through

Simplify/ de-clutter

Haptic feedback can be used to substitute or relief other modalities, simplifying the interaction, making it perceived with less effort or increase the comfort.

Humanize

Object interactions can be based on human interaction patterns to reach a more seamless, intuitive or emotional experience

Safety feature

Due to the seamless integration, haptic feedback can be used in critical situations without disrupting the users' perception.

Provide guidance

Haptic feedback can be used to create intuitive guiding systems by utilising multiple actuators or directional feedback.

Branding

Haptic feedback can be used to communicate brand values or brand specific characteristics.

Tailored feedback

Digital haptic feedback allows to tailor the feedback to each interaction.

Object design

Haptic feedback can lead to different product designs by replacing mechanical interfaces with surface haptics.

Enhance

Haptic feedback can be utilised to make interactions more rich, prominent or to add  a certain characteristic.

Inclusive

Haptic feedback is great for inclusive interactions and support application for both visually or hearing impaired users.
